These are some practical and interesting ideas for us, the eaters to think about or to follow when every time we want to savor the gift from the nature.
Some quotes from “Food Rules: An Eater’s Manual“, written by Michael Pollan
- Don’t eat anything your great-grandmother wouldn’t recognize as food.
- Avoid food products containing ingredients that a third-grader cannot pronounce.
- Eat mostly plants, especially leaves.
- It’s not food if it’s called by the same name in every language. (Think Big Mac, Cheetos, or Pringles.)
- “Eating what stands on one leg [mushrooms and plant foods] is better than eating what stands on two legs [fowl], which is better than eating what stands on four legs [cows, pigs, and other mammals].”
- Eat animals that have themselves eaten well.
- Eat wild foods when you can.
- Eat all the junk food you want as long as you cook it yourself.
- Eat more like the French. Or the Japanese. Or the Italians. Or the Greeks.
- Eat slowly. Indian proverb that gets at this idea: “Drink your food, chew your drink.”
- Do all your eating at a table. No, a desk is not a table.
- Plant a vegetable garden if you have the space, a window box if you don’t.
- Break the rules once in a while.
These are merely some suggestions about how to eat, above all, the most important rule is “with love”. Just as Anita Moorjani, the writer of “Dying To Be Me” say.
I also used to be very particular about everything I ate, not because of a love for myself or a caring for my body. It was because of fear of what these foods would do to me… I now realize that it’s the emotions I feel about the food that has more effect on me than the food itself…
Even if I eat a piece of chocolate or dessert, I eat it because I want to enjoy the sensation of eating it, and enjoy every bite.
